Exalta Health is one of those Grand Rapids organizations that quietly holds the whole community together. As we enter 2026, Exalta is celebrating 30 years of community service, and when you sit with that for a second, you realize how rare that kind of consistency really is. Thirty years of showing up, of caring, of making sure someone does not have to choose between pain and rent. The hard truth is that at Exalta there is no shortage of customer demand, meaning there is no shortage of patients in need. That side of the supply and demand curve is full. So the real work is on the supply side, making sure Exalta is equipped with the staff and funding to keep providing critical care in Grand Rapids.
The staffing challenge is unique because Exalta relies on licensed medical professionals who volunteer time out of their week, aside from their day job, to care for patients at Exalta. The amazing part is that patients are getting expert level care from skilled professionals who are choosing to serve. The challenge is that in order to be respectful of professional time, Exalta needs an ample lineup of staff to cover all the hours in the week. Volunteer medical professionals are the heartbeat of this clinic, and the clinic depends on that heartbeat to keep its doors open.
The second ongoing challenge is funding. Not flashy funding. Not vague funding. Real world funding for materials and tools and supplies that make care possible. Look around any director’s office and you see endless items that matter, the kind of supplies that are easy to overlook until you need them. Exalta needs donor support to keep those supplies stocked so patients can get the care they need, when they need it.
